Shotokan Karate Sensei And Planting Seeds!

Submitted by Linden on Mon, 08/10/2007 - 11:29.
I’m sure all karate instructors will agree, if a karate student trains hard, with the right attitude, anything is possible! Instilling this attitude in new karate-ka is one of my main concerns, I always say to my students, ‘when you train, you must have the right attitude, if you have the right attitude, everything else will come, you must enjoy your karate, if you do not, don’t do it. Find something you do like. Life’s too short!’ So, teaching karate is really like, sowing seeds! You plant the seeds in your students minds and then some of them grow, some don’t, some get squashed by outside influences. I know it sounds hard, but once I have seen who has a good attitude and who does not, I will focus on the karate-ka with good attitudes, because I know, these are the ones who will progress. I am not concerned with their natural ability, I do not care if they are young or old, thin or fat, male or female, the only thing I care about initially, is their ATTITUDE.
